Summary

Little is known about this colonial writer. 'William Burrows' is known to be a pseudonym, but the real author has not been identified. His collection of stories, Adventures of a Mounted Trooper in the Australian Constabulary: Being Recollections of Seven Years' Experience of Life in Victoria, and New South Wales, was published by Routledge, Warne and Routledge in 1859 and reprinted in 1891. They are usually taken to be the first stories to deal with crime on the Australian goldfields.
